Does anyone know how often we should change the particle filter in the exhaust? IS this a critical part? I read somewhere that someone's mpg improved once he changed it.

Thanks,

Peter

Isn't that one of the service items you can see in the i-drive menu

ON pre-lci, it was in the service menu, on the lci, it has been removed. BMW says it should last about 200,000 km but in reality it depends on you do your driving - a lot of city driving, and you need to have it changed more often. Mine was screwed after 30000km but then again, I did a lot of city driving.. Costs about 1500 eur to change..

Wow, 30K vs 200K is a big variance. Anyway - thanks a million!

Thats kinda stupid. Please tell me that BMW is not charging 22hrs labour to change that filter. On my volvo V50, the filter was changed at 96,000km. The parts were ~$70, and the labour was 1.5hrs. $1,500 euros seems a hell of a lot for something like that.

to be fair - we have 20% vat in austria. On top, greeting your SA in BMW austria already costs couple of hundred eur... That is the downside of driving a bmw. Buying the car is one thing, but maintaining a bmw is one pain in the ar$e...
