Hi there
I have some issues with the panoramic sunroof on my `05 E61. When tilting the roof, it gets stucked in open position. After I have tried pressing the button in every direction for 15 seconds several times, turning on/off engine etc, it finaly closes. This has happened 3 times in a row and I dont dare using the sunroof anylonger... When I try to fully open the roof by sliding it backwards, it stops in the middle and returns automatically.
Anyone experienced something similar? Is it safetyswitch somewhere?
And what is recommended to do for maintaining? I guess some cleaning and lubrication are good things to do? But its not easy to get acces to things. Has anyone removed the glas or the entire casette? Lots of work?
regards
Jon

Just had to give it another go yesterday, and now I can`t get the roof closed... It is parked in the tilted position and when I push the button i moves only a few millimeters down and then up again.
Anyone got a clue? Im hoping to get the roof down before it starting to rain..

If you read the manual, it talks about manual operation of the sunroof, hopefully you can do that for the tilt too. Also, maybe a reset would help? Also found in the manual.

Yes, you can close it with a little force with the manual winding handle as per the manual. Get someone to push down on the two glass panels gently as you wind it and it will go.
Mine did this a few years ago, corrective measure was lube all the joints and re-initialise, has worked fine every since.

this could be 2 things. you get your panoramic roof cassette damaged - there is fix on the Internet just google for panoramic roof stuck in tilt position. it require cutting some plastic bits of the cassette and only front part will work as for tilting, will not affect opening at whole. Or, I had exactly the same problem, could not close from tilt, but worked fine for open/close, I dismantle the switch, give a switch good clean with electrical cleaner and no luck! I ordered the new switch, it worked fine ever since. you need to reinitialize the roof after unplugging the switch.
ps: the new cassette or whole roof cos they dont sell it separately is around 4-5K

this will do:

thay all the same for older and newer models, including panoramic roof or just roof window.
plenty of those when you do the search on fleebay.

mine also has the sticking problem and this is how I always close it: press the button forward for a split-second. the roof moves down maybe 1-2 mm, not more. repeat this 10 times, and at some point the mechanism circumvents the anti-trap point, and closes. try this on yours.
I have done the initialisation a few times without the roof remaining tilted. this can mean that when initialising, it does indeed completely ignore the anti-trap function.

in the theory, the split second forward button pushing could work. All you need to do is to disable anti trap sensor. how?- take a small flat headed screwdriver, take the trim with roof switch out. disconnect the roof switch, ignition in position two. reatach switch put everything back and that should work.

What I said is not theory, it's reality.
I've done this 100's of times, without disabling any sensors. In fact, my roof has never been closed from tilted position in the "conventional way".
