Well I have owned the car for about a year and I thought that I would share some views and observations having now really settled into ownership and no longer thinking about the vehicle as a new car.

Negative marks

I-drive and the sat nav system really are nowhere near as good as they should be and are not "user friendly". BMW should have done better here.

The front bumper/air dam is just too low to the ground meaning no matter how carefully you drive you are going to damage it, especially scraping on kerbs and driveways which pulls it away from the body.

Middling Grades

The engine on the 530i is smooth and power is plentiful, except with the car heavily loaded it just lacks a bit of mid-range torque...or seems to anyway.

Those damn windscreen wipers set up for a left hand drive car. Surely BMW could have reversed them for RHD.

Some of the exterior bodywork just seems a bit "fragile".

Fuel economy is a little dissapointing.

Top marks

A good city car, nimble and agile for a large vehicle.

A great country tourer. Driving and seating positions excellent. Comfy for passengers too.

Excellent interior.

Most important though and outweighing everything else...it is simply the best handling surest feeling wagon on the market, and I have driven all of the competitors. Simply a wonderful car to drive.

Very happy in ownership.

Cheers.

Glad to see a happy customer !

BTW, how many ponies does the 530i have down under? With the facelift in March, a new 530i will come out, more powerfull...

yes its always good to hear from a happy customer.

anyway.. e60 530s has two engines depending on the year produced. M54 engine = 225 horses. N52 engine = 255 horses.

His signature says 10/05 build so he has the N52.

The 231Hk never reached the E61, they're all 258 BHP's.

Indeed, N52. Good engine but just a little "breathless" sometimes. Would love the 535d but BMW Australia in their wisdom do not bring the Touring into Australia. It is a low volume vehicle. Most people here choose the X5, it is cheaper and has the all important ride height and AWD...most important for dropping the kids to school and going shopping!
