Very scary finding this on all 4 tyres of our 535d E61.

The picture is of the worst one which looks like it was about to completely explode.

The tread is totally consistent across the width of the tyres (4mm) apart from the inside edge which has worn as shown. They done about 30000 miles max.

So what on earth would cause this? Too much toe, too much camber, something else?

These are not run flats, but Kumho KU31s. Glad we bought a space saver!

You're running wayyyy too much negative camber. Is your ride lowered?

You're lucky you caught these. Steel belts showing = blowouts

Looks like a lot less than 4mm tread remaining from the photos... and those are the conventional KU31s and not the RFT versions? How often are the pressures checked?

If you have it on all 4 rims, I can't help you,but if it's only on the rear axle, it xould be that you run a wrong et, I know that if you run OEM rims with et28(only for e60) your tyres will rub against the suspension, Ithink this could be the result..

What kind if rims do you run?

I don´t think it´s the camber guys...if it was the inside should be all slick. Now there is a clear edge visible like the wheel was rubbing to the suspension with the wrong ET.

At the front axle the camber is not adjustable.

If it would be a negative camber, you would see it by the increasing abrasion from the outside to the inside,
I bet 5 bucks it's the et

Exactly the same thing happened to me (2004 E61 530d) last year. I have 18 inch stock wheels and had the same Kumho tires, just non-RFT.

My tyre size was stock (245-40-18) on all four wheels and alignment was perfectly fine, done shortly before this happened, and checked as I discovered it.

My explanation is: the fu***ng tires are s**t.

Now I am running Pirellis and after 20,000 miles I don't see any excessive wear on the inside.
Also, what I noticed is that my Pirellis have a "belt" of very hard rubber built-in the thread close to the inner edge of the tyre, obviously meant to prevent such excessive wear - and it works.
