My Ride: YOM July 2004 E61 525iA Monacoblue w/Black leather Standard suspension Xenon 17" Alloys Roof rails
Default

Hello from Newbie.

Just got my 2004 E61 525i. This is the one and only E61 from where I am from. It comes with standard shocks and 17" Styling 138 wheels. The problem with this set up is the excessive body roll.

I had a 4 years sabbatical from BMW, when I drove a mad 2003 Subaru STi with Bilstein PSS9 shocks. Hence, I find my current 525iT to have too much body roll when negotiating corners and bends.

My previous Beemers were 1989 E30 325iA, 1991 E36 325i/4, 1993 E36 318iS Coupe, 1994 E36 320i/4, 1991 E34 525iA, 2000 E39 525iA Touring.

So now i am back.

I am looking forward to driving impressions from anyone who has suspension setup other than the standard set up.

Hi, I am new to the E61 as well. My last car was a Mazda 6 MPS and I to find the body roll a little greater. Mine has the sport suspension and 18" wheels. The sport kit is without doubt firmer than the SE model. The E61 is a very heavy car compared to an STi. Mine has self levelling rear shocks, so I don't know if they could be changed in the same way as a standard shock.

I would try and find some sports setup first, because you know it will fit.

BlueRex, I have an old E39 528i and it had some body roll as well. My new 530i has Sport and Premi packages with the Heated Sport seats. Body roll is not near as bad. I do know that you can get the Comfort seats that have the side expansions that eliminate the body roll.

I am thinking of replacing my standard shocks to the 'M Sports suspension' setup at the AD. The reason for the need to go on sports suspension is to get more confident handling especially when negotiating fast bends. The active steering dulls the steering feel somewhat, and added to the car body roll....it is not a good feeling.

Anyone has experienced better setup than the 'M Sports suspension'?

Anyone can give feedback on KW V2? Or Bilsteins?
