Hi Guys
Just taken delivery of my 2007 e61 520d tourer auto
really pleased with the car exept for the mpg
driving like a granny gets me 38 mpg at best
just a few questions if i may,
how do i know if i have the 163 or the 177 bhp version, it was registerd on 02/aug/2007 has 189 c02 rating i think that puts it in the 163bhp bracket i think
what can i do about the fuel consumption as its pretty high i think compared to the newer ones
am i able to remap for better fuel consumption & better hp as well??
any help much appreceated

Hi I just had my 520d(manual) remapped which is the 163bhp version. I asked the specialist that did it about the 177bhp version, and he explained the car has a new ECU that BMW fitted. He explained that the newer ECU cannot be remapped at present as it has been designed with a 512bit encryption by BMW specifically to stop you fiddling with it. Hope you have the 163, as mine gives an estimated 210bhp now and i get a few extra mpg to boot - on the drive home (26miles of urban and motorway) I averaged 51.3mpg!! I have just written a long post with regards to my experience.
Hope this helps!
