new winter tyres
#1
hi folks,
this week i wanted to buy some winter tyres for my e61 535d m-sport which, hopefully, will be delivered next week. since bmw does not deliver the car with winter tyres and i want some 19'' rims for the summer i needed to buy some 245/40 18 winter rubber for the m-sport rims.
and now the funny thing: i contacted 4 tyre dealers and 3 of them wanted to disencourage me from buying that dimension for winter tyres. they argued that, as it was possibly correct 10 years ago, smaller winter tyres, are better.
a short search in the internet, however, revealed that today, this is not true anymore for a modern winter tyre.
therefore i would be interested what the majority of the forum members drive in winter and whether you ever had bad experiences with larger dimensions.

Interesting point, as I have done exactly the same; 172M for summer use and 135M with 245/40x18 for winter use. The winter tyres will show up next week and it will take some more weeks before they are on thecar, but I will keep you posted during the winter how it goes...

servus,
have used them in the last two years on my e60 in vienna - no probs whatsoever. have gone ski resorts in austria with the tires - no probs..
in fact, this year, for my e61, i have decided to go for 19" but with 245 wheels all around.
my 135 with 245" winter tires are heading for ebay this week, so lemme know if you are interested.

Marco, which tyres did you go for...? Finally I bought GoodYear UltraGrip (friction).
I was in doubt whether taking non RunFlat but after having read the following accident report I am more and more sure that this are my tyres.

Don't know exactly the model but GoodYear and guess it is UltraGrip Performance RunOnFlat.

Mine are non-RFL... Better be careful, then.
On the end, as it was too long to wait, I went for Pirelli Sottozero RunFlat. I was told that are the most performing togerther with Continental TS810 Sport. Let?s see.
