My Ride: 530i M Sport Touring LCI. Platinum Gray. Beige Dakota leather. Brushed Aluminium trim. Media package. Side blinds. Auto dim mirrors. Comfort seats. Storage compartment pack. Extended interior light package. HUD. DVD prep in rear. IPOD interface.
My key fob stopped working the other day. The car still starts when it is in the slot, but it can't be used to unlock or lock the car. The spare is the same. It seems to retain memory of car settings.
I can unlock the car by putting the key in the door lock, but then the alarm goes off until the key is in the ignition.
Is there a reset procedure for these keys (the type you push in a slot then use start/stop button).
Car is a 2007 E61.
Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the replies.
After my last two BMW's (E46 and E60), neither of which gave me any trouble at all, this one is a bit of a shock to the system.
So far in it's first year it's been back for a new control unit for self levelling suspension, a new high pressure fuel pump, and now this.

That's better Antenna replaced and car reprogrammed. While it was there they noticed it had a recall for new injectors so did that as well, and now I seem to be getting a couple more miles per gallon out of it as well. Finally the economy improvement the LCI promised but didn't deliver.

I haven't had any problems with my new car except a chirp in the steering wheel (fixed with some BMW fluid)
and now a small rattle from the left hand side decor list.

how much did the antena amplifier cost? does it need a lot of labor hours?
It was done under warranty so I don't know the cost. They had it a couple of days but replaced the injectors as well.
A week later the fuel pump failed for the second time. They took it in, decided the injectors were the problem and replaced them. I pointed out that they had done this a week previously, but they decided it was fixed anyway. Until it broke down when they were delivering it back. Then they replaced the fuel pump that I suggested was the problem in the first place.
So far this car has had 5 warranty repairs in it's first year. First the rear suspension failed - controller was replaced. Then the sat nav lost track of the cars true position. Fixed by reprogramming. Then a new fuel pump. Then the fobs stopped working. Then another fuel pump. I had an E60 before this and never had any trouble with it. Got a lemon this time I think...
