As the title says had a new 520d Touring with M sport spec (low emmissions = low company car tax) delivered yesterday by the leasing company. First impressions are good but engine is tight. Looking to get a remap once it settles down.
Anyway i cocked up the order and forgot to specify the CD changer. Once the car arrived at the dealer (some 300 miles away from me) i asked them to fit one. They said it is a difficult retro fit and wanted ?550 so i told them to forget it (it was a ?295 option)
Had a look in the glove box and there is a connection lead where the CD changer fits. Does anyone know if it is a difficult fit (software mod??)
Also the rechargeable torch is missing (the socket is there) but at the side of it is what looks like a "jack plug" hole.
I've been following the various threads re IPOD links over the past 2 weeks. Does anyone know if this could be an AUX input. The car is a Nov 05 build.

Hi,
first: Happy new year... from europe...
As far as I now the AuxIn is not installed by factory in the 5 series. It maybe the power plug for the small light which can be located there.
About the CD changer fitting I've no idea, sorry.

Hi from the US, I just got a E60 a few weeks ago and I have the wiring prep to enable me to add either a CD changer or Satilite radio. However, from all I have been reading, the I-Drive needs to be updated after anything is added. It's not like plug and play, and bingo, the device appears in the I-Drive window.
For the same reasons as you, I did not want to pay my dealer nearly $800 for something that only costs about $400. the reast was he's labor costs for reprogramming the I-drive.
Happy new year,

I noticed the torch in the accessories brochure, I reckon the tight ****s don't give you one as standard any more. Will keep the one from my old car I think.
Can't help with the CD changer, sorry. Had the same price problem with the towbar, ?600 option or ?1500 retro fit. One of the factors that pushed me to a new order instead of a nearly new.
I do understand tha constant irritation when you wish something was different, I just hope I have spec'd correctly!!

I've had my e61 520d M sport since September. Whilst i've only done a few thousand miles it is starting to loosen up particularly the gearbox which was overstiff when new.
I questioned the glovebox torch and seems that the charger point is there but they don't install the torch any longer at least that's the case for UK cars.
With regards to your cd changer have you not concidered burning your cd's to mp3 format and playing the cd-r/w through the single slot cd. You should get around 150 songs per cd-r/w which is a lot more than the changer. The Mp3 playback is now possible on the pro nav system if you get the latest software but as far as i'm aware the business nav system always could playback mp3/cd-r/w.

Done 2500 miles over the last 3 weeks and the engine is loosening up nicely now. Pulling alot better from low down and generally feeling like i expected.
