Thinking of having my alloys treated with MetalMate - this puts a protective polymer coat over the alloys surface meaning that brake dust / grime etc. is much easier to wash off.

Has anyone used this stuff or had it applied? Are there any alternatives people can recommend? Bear in mind that I am too lazy and time-poor to spend hours cleaning, prepping, waxing, buffing. etc !

ps this is my first post -please be gentle.....

I have not tested it, but as you I'm really tempted to try some wheel-wax or similar. As you I'm of the lazy kind of car owner...

Not tried it, I am going to treat mine with Car-Lack (Klasse) and top off with wheel wax once the salt is washed of the roads for the year.

Have you found a supplier for metalmate, the only ones I can find are for valet application at ?40 a shot.....ouch

Any suggestions for restoring the wheels before putting the protector on ? Some others seem to have been US only products.
My fronts have gone yellow like a nicotine smoker (it spends most weekends earning its depreciation so no time for regular washing n polishing!)

I use "wonder wheels" alloy wheel cleaner around twice a year its very good but be carefull to test a small area first and keep away from any broken laqueur and make sure you rince thoroughly after. Afterwhich i normally just apply regular car wax and that does the job for me.

Yep ?40 is what I've been quoted. If this includes cleaning and prepping all the alloys, then applying the coating I may consider it. The problem is that my m-sport alloys hoover up dirt and make the whole car look filthy (even if the bodywork is relatively clean)!
