I have the Logic7 in my 750Li and I just got my '09 535xi wagon with it. Just in the few years difference of sound improvements, the system in the wagon sound much better than in the 750. I can't imagine it has anything to do with cabin size. The EQ is great. My only complaint is dialing it in for the driver (more sound from the rear, it seems to be heavy on the front speakers). If you fade too much towards the rear, the loss of power is noticeable. I'm a jazz listener and I really look for clarity and punch and right/left and front/back make all the difference. So...the latest version of Logic7 is pretty nice and yes I hear the difference from just a few years ago (as well as in my wife's 530i which doesn't have it).
Sorry to make this comment, but why do you want to fade towards the rear? You say you're a jazz listener, but do you alway turn your back to the stage at a jazz concert?

US & EU
You're right about USA and Europe, you have lot of options already in the base. In Europe we mostly order the car, like you said, build up from almost nothing to the car you prefer. Dealers reserve slots in the factory and can change the car to a couple of weeks in advance and in that way they can add/change the option list.

The Logic7. Like I said the car has a bigger inside due to not having the closed trunk.
1) In the E61 you have 500 litres of extra open space (the cover doesn't have the same function as the closed trunk.
2) The speakers in the E61 are in the roof instead of the cupboard (right wording?), that gives them less space.....
3) In the E60 the trunk works like a big boombox and that really helps improving the sound quality.

I'm not a specialist, but I think the above will always have the effect that the sound is better in an E60 (against the E61), this difference will also be there with the HiFi stereo. Family of mine has a new X5 and also he stated that the Logic7 sounds better E61 than in the X5. But still, the sound is great, I would order it.

Logic7 options with the new iDrive are just L7 Surround On/Off, Equalizer, Bass, Treble, Fader. That's it. You cannot save presets (at least I couldn't find it going through all the options....but I think it's not there). I'm not familiair with online manuals on the new iDrive. I have some nice presentation on them, but not with this detailed information in it.

Good luck with your choices....

/Eric

I second most answers. I had BMWs before without Logic 7, let me put it to you this way, I would NEEEEEEVER get another BMW without Logic 7, it is the crisper, sharper sound I ever heard in a car. The subwooofer under the seats are mind blowing! You will regret later if you don't get it!!! My 2 cents.

Did you notice that the 2009 5 series ordering guide show the logic 7 option for the 535xit at "NC" (no cost) just like the 550?

Thanks rhnorb.

I had not noticed it - but now I know (it's for 2009 550i and 535xiTs.)

Thanks for the heads up!

In 08 they gave the dealer cash back for the p package, no sure if they are doing in 2009.

I prefer the 17 inch tires since they are not run flats.
The run flats will wear out in 30,000 miles or less.
I generally do a 3 year 36,000 mile lease and don't want to replace tires.

I looked into the head-up display ? frankly I don't think it is worth $1,200 (MSRP). I let the stepmatic do the shifting (I would say that 95% of the time it does a better job than I did on my old M5 an it sure is nicer to have when in a jam of I-95). On my 2006 E61 my scan easily took in the navigation screen, speed, mirrors and road. However, I can see its use on an M5 ? either stick or SMG for picking shift points ? esp. if one goes to the track. If there was a head-up display of night vision or there was a reticule to use the 007 cannon to take out bad drivers (Mucho Grim) that would be another thing. Am I missing something?
With respect, yeah you are missing something. HUD is one option you will appreciate every day. I do NOT have my M5 set to show shift points on it actually - even in M Mode. But having the actual speed, target cruise speed and all nav instruction there is really fantastic. I was driving recently in a snow storm in Vermont (with the winter rubber on of course). Was pretty intense snow fall with low vis - did not have to take my eyes off the road for a second and had all the info right there in front of me. Think how easily you can blow $1200 in this world - this will be $1200 well spent. I paid $1000 for comfort access. I like it, but I would far sooner give up CA than HUD.

Plus, if you get a March build+ car, you are going to get an even better version of HUD. Better res and it will show the speed limit where you are Anyway, up to you, but I really think you'll regret it if you don't get it - I know people that didn't and do.

Ah, so that's the rub, "Better res and it will show the speed limit where you are " Now one will no longer have the excuse of not knowing the speed limit when you're stopped by the Highway Patrol!

Thanks for all the advice jjdnyc.

BTW what's the speed limit on Park Ave - a college classmate of mine said that if one goes at twice that limit, one can make all the lights from 51st Street to 86th. I never tried it!
