My Ride: 535D Tourer - Pre LCI
I searched high and low for a guide on this before researching the little motors on the insides of the D pillars.... In summary, when opening my glass, I could hear a motor grinding behind the pillar in the boot (i originally thought it was my auto tailgate).
Upon removal i unplugged the motor and took the whole mechanism apart to check - what i found was that the motor had worked its way loose in its holder making the gears slip - solution was to place a thin (1-2mm) sticky pad between the motor and the holder and hey presto!! (hate that saying )
It now works!! I now have a fully elevating load cover when my window is opened!
PS: I think the price at a dealer is roughly £50 for the whole mechanism (each side) which is fundamentally a crappy hobby motor which you can buy off ebay for £2! should your motor have gone
hopefully this will help some poor sod in the near future
