Hello All,
since i'm new to BMW features i'm wondering if it's possible to have lights on (xenon, not position) when unlocking the car. I'm used to this feature and would be nice if that's possible.
Thanks!

I believe this is a feature on the 2009 onwards cars. It's not possible on older cars.

Member Hellraiser carried out an electrical mod to make the Angels come on with locking and unlocking. Take a look HERE

I have not found (nor tracked down) for this function in the iDrive.

So called homecoming lights should be possible to active in the iDrive.
If I don't recall false, I used to have this feature on my pre-LCI's.

I have the parking lights (in the LCI daytime running lights) activated
for 60 secs now.

that's correct, i do have it active (coming home) - but it is not working....
Once the key is out - everything is off.

I was also hoping that once i'm unlocking the car - light will go on. And that's not the case.
Trying to figure it out. Probably RTFM is needed

Good, nice to know.

from my experience, lights will be ON after unlocking, when you will leave lights switch to AUTO position. In this case it will blink & light for a while. If this switch will be left at "0" position, nothing happens then... Right? I hate RTFM ...too although sometimes it's useful

The homecoming lights are activated in the iDrive. These work by leaving the lights on after you leave the car for a user specified amount of time. You activate them by pulling the left indicator lever forwards, as if you were "flashing" your lights.

in fact, i have them in AUTO position and once i'm switching of engine lights are off completely. Then, if you need "coming home" you need to activate it with left indicator (as mentioned by MarcsOnFire).
Then, when i'm unlocking the car - lights are on only inside the car and on mirrors but not headlights (position) or/and low-xenon.
This is exactly somehting i was looking for - some kind of "coming FROM home" function
Seems it's not there so far, probably some DIY is needed.

We pre-LCI owners do not have the "head lights come on" function when opening the car with the remote control. If you have the light-package, it will activate the lights in the bottom of the wing-mirrors, which illuminate the area next to the car, but not the area in front of the car.

Thanks!

This is from page 94 of the US 2006 Owners Manual. The topic is Lamps. The feature you are refering to is called Pathway Lighting. The instructions to activate this feature via iDrive is below.

Pathway lighting
When you activate the headlamp flasher after
parking the vehicle and switching off the lamps,
the low beams will come on for a brief period.
You can set the duration via iDrive or deactivate
the function.
iDrive, for principle details, refer to page 16.

1. Press the MENU button.
This opens the start menu.
2. Press the controller to open the i menu.
3. Select "Vehicle settings" and press the
controller.
4. Select "Lighting" and press the controller.
5. Select "Pathway lighting" and press the
controller.
6. Turn the controller to select the corresponding
duration.
7. Press the controller to apply the setting.

Hope this works for you.
