Lights remaining on...
Greetings..... new user here.
I am having some issues. I drive a 2008 525i Wagon. Last few evenings I've been hearing a crackling sound from rear (i think it is the battery compartment) for like 2 seconds when I insert the key into Ignition, and it makes same sound when I remove. I am also facing the issue of my rear taillights not turning off (both sides) even after I have removed the key and locked the car. I put the headlight button in the off position and the rear lights stay on regardless. Also, the backlight (dim) for the hazard light switch remains on while the "P" on the steptronic shifter is remaining lite as well. Gremlins for sure.... I would really appreciate a help on this.
Thank you,
TerryPowers

Just read through the matching post in the other thread. Wild. The other thread seems to suggest a leveling sensor, but crackling sounds are not mentioned aside from you and our Qatari friend.
Assuming you're a DIY flavor of Terry, disassemble whatever needs to be disassembled to get a good look, and sit in the trunk while a helper inserts the key. Use your ears to trace the location of the crackling sound, and figure out exactly where it's coming from. That'll either be the culprit, or at least a very good clue to whom the culprit might be.
If you're not handy/savvy/well equipped for electrical gremlin search and destruction operations, this sounds very much like a shop problem for a talented indy.
Report back with your findings for the next poor soul so afflicted.

Are you getting water in your spare wheel/battery compartment? That was the first problem with my car, the modules and relays that live in the spare wheel well were sitting in a lake when I received the car. Rear level sensor out, tpms light on, lights remaining on, sunroof buttons not working...
