My Ride: 2008 BMW 528i
Default 2008 528i no start, no ignition

The other morning, I went to put key fob in switch and nothing happened. Normally when I push key fob in, the instrument panel lights up. Seems like it doesn't recognize the key fob. Key fob locks and unlocks doors and trunk but the lock and unlock buttons are reversed for some reason. Radio comes on, park lights work, no headlights, no brake lights, interior lights work, windows don't roll down. Battery is sufficiently charged. Shouldn't the steering wheel be locked? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It could be due to many things. How did you test your battery? Did you check the charge histogram? Reading the DTC codes would be your best bet.

Checked the battery with multimeter and then with load tester. Have not checked "charging histogram??" Can the DTC's be checked with the ignition off? There isn't any response whatsoever when key is inserted into switch.

You can read [some] DTC codes without the ignition being on. I take it you don't have a spare key fob to try.

What voltage are you measuring at the actual battery? After the load test, does the battery recover slow or fast?

No spare key fob. Voltage at battery is 12.6. Voltage recovery was quick after load test, within seconds.

Did you try disconnecting the IBS?

When the battery recovers quickly after a load test, that is considered a failed test.

Yes, I have unplugged IBS. I will do the load test again.

Hold off on the load test for now. When my brand-new battery failed load test, it was still able to start the car.

You really need to see if you can read DTC codes. You could have a faulty CAS or some other module.

No DTC's present. Very skeptical since the ignition wasn't on during the process. Also key doesn't seem to lock in switch like usual.

Don't know if it is this matters but the gear selector is not physically locked in Park. It moves to Drive and Reverse and also over to S and M. The steering wheel also is free. Sorry for all this! I'm at my wits end with it!!!!
