Hi Im a newbie to these forums and have just bought a MAY07 E61 with 2200 miles on it. I get it next Thursday. I have been doing some research in the mean time trying to waste away some time.

I have a few question for you guys in the know if thats ok?

I have noticed that the facelift cars are called LCI on here which I assume is because of the new direct injection petrol engines. Is that correct?

I have purchased a 530D with the new transmission type but is there any difference to the engine over the 06 cars? The power outputs are the same and the brochure only mentions new technology on the petrol engines.

Does the diesel car use brake regeneration, use the alternator on engine run down and do the other efficiency things or is that just the petrol cars too. The brochure makes me think its only the petrol models that do this, does any one know?

Many thanks

Dan.

Dan,
If it is a production date of May 2007 (as opposed to a registration date), it will be a 235bhp car with all the brake regen stuff. The pre March 2007 car is the 231bhp engine.

If you have the latest auto stick, it is the latest LCI car. Also the lights are different, interior etc. The emissions are greatly reduced on the LCI cars and fuel consumption official figures much improved.

The Idrive knob on LCI cars is black rubber top and sides.

The production date is on the drivers door jamb, and can also be accessed in a "secret" menu on the instrument display - difficult for you to access as you don't have the car yet! Do a search on this forum for secret menu...

Cheers for that. The car is deffinately the facelift with the new auto gearshift selector and revised interior(registered May 07), thats what I was looking for when buying. I checked with the dealer after seeing a pre facelift car on an 07 plate and the change is something like production week 10-12. Does that mean all the LCI stuff is still active even though its the diesel? I take it LCI is nothing to do with the petrol engines alone then.

LCI stands for Life Cycle Impulse - BMW speak simply meaning Facelift.

LCI models are therefore all those manufacturered from March 2007 regardless of engine/fuel.

Also the diesel engines takes advantage of the new fuel saving technologies mentioned above.
