Hello guys.

I am buying an BMW 530D 2008 model E61.
There is one problem with this car as i know of.
When locking and unlocking car, you nee to stay
very close to car. (This is something i have
been explained, i have not tried it my self.
So i doent know how close you must be.)
Its the same issue with both keys.
The car has Start and stop button. So i think
its a comfort key.

Is it possible that its just to change the
battery on both keys? Or is there something
else that could cause this problem?

Is there anyone else that have had simular
issue with their car, that can point me what
to google.

I have read a little about Diversity antenna,
and about broken kables.

Regards Morten

Hej Morten!

Welcome to this forum - you can also try the Swedish Autopower.se where you'll find a lot on this subject.

Just because you have Start/Stop button doesn't mean you have comfort access - it's an option. If both key's behave the same way I suggest it's something in the car and it could very well be the antenna. I don't think the cables have cracked - yet, but they will do - so maybe it's water in the transmitter. You need to remove the spoiler on the boot lid.

Normally you don't have to change batteries in the key fob, and certainly not for a car that is only four years old; just make sure you use the second one now and then to keep the battery charged.

Thank you!.

I bought the car yesterday, and WOW what a car.
To open and close i have to put the key 30 cm
from the antenna fin before i get a reaction.
So its seems like the antenna amplifier is not
working some how. (Diversity antenna).
When it comes to the key. Its proberly not a
comfort key. Because i have to put the key in
to the hole before push the start button. And there
is no way to change the battery in key fob. Then i
have to smash the key first.

Anyway, I will search more in the swedish forums
and see what they have acomplished on this issue.

Is it a easy job to remove the spoiler in boot lid?
Why is it not a cracked cable? If there is no power
on Antenna it should be the same issue, because the
antenna is an amplifier on the signal. Am I right?

Thanks for putting me in the right direction.

Regards Morten

I don't want to worry you unduly, but it could be as simple (and as complicated) as the wiring for the central locking.

For a while, ours worked intermittently, and I had hoped it might be the key. As it turns out, it was the wiring that comes through in the rear hatch. I think I had four wires that had split - the CL one had split but not separated, hence it sometimes working and sometimes not. It eventually split and stopped working altogether. The only way I could get into the car was to unlock it manually, but this didn't disable the alarm, so as soon as you opened the door, the siren went off.

I remedied this by keeping the key turned inthe lock and dropping all the windows, then putting the key into the lock from the outside and then opening the car.

This eventually drained the battery though.

There are some walkthroughs on this site if you're handy enough to replace wiring yourself. I'm not and so took mine to an independent.

Then narvselius is right on his post. My key works every time,
but i need to stand behind the car and point the key at antenna fin
to open or close. So its hopefully to just change the diversity
antenna for me then. I will open up the spoiler asap, and investegate.
I will also check my cables and make this better then it is.

Unlikely to be a cable if it still works at all, though it could be a corroded plug, there are 4 going into the diversity antenna. They are not cheap, but easy to change. Open the rear window, not the whole door, there are 4 blanking plugs, remove and unscrew 4 star drive screws. Slide spoiler towards back approx 50/60mm and lift off. Be careful of the flat cables still attached. Remove top of plastic box inside. You now see diversity antenna. Remove 4 electrical plugs, 3 have catches, remove 2 nuts and lift DA out.
There may be water in there, it might work better after drying out. If not replace with new. Seal the plastic box with silicone when you put it back together to stop water getting in.

Hello guys.

I finaly opened everything up. And found little water inside.
It was not very much water put enought to get in to the diversity antenna.
Cleand the whole area disconnected cables. Took out antenna and opened it.
There was not much corrosion on print card, so i just wiped it clean and installed it again.
And everything worked again. After this i glued the box together with tech 7.

I also put some extra tape on the cables to give them som more protection. And
inserted some vulctape inside the hole where the cables are coming out from the
car roof. So now my cables are not in touch with metal.

Hopefully this will last for a long time.

Sorry for my english. And thanks for all help i got.

Regards Morten
