Default Interior lights have a mind of their own

Hi all,

I've searched the forum and not really found a definitive answer to the problem I have on my 2004 touring...recently the reading lights, sun visor lights and glovebox lights have stopped working properly. I replaced the fuse, and they worked for a day, then they stopped working. Occasionally they will come on briefly if I open the door, and then they go out again (after 2 secs), but they won't work if i try and turn the lights on (reading lights).

From the posts I've found on the forum, some are pointing this issue towards the notorious tailgate wiring loom problem, and perhaps its shorting out the connection to the interior lights. But could this really affect the interior lights? (Note the main interior light works fine). Some others have suggested a faulty light control module - is this replaceable by a DIYer?

Has anyone else experienced this, and found a solution before i attempt the rear loom replacement DIY task.

Thanks!
