My Ride: 535d Sport Tourer - E34 M5 Race Car
Thought I'd get the 535d Sport Tourer on track just for a giggle and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Body roll was way less than I'd expected (once the self levelling had gone back down after starting the session set high from towing the trailer), understeer was only a problem until I switched off the traction when it was easily balanced with a jab of the throttle; run-flats cried out in pain but held on well and were predictable. The only real problem was braking down from fast sections into slow corners - that's when you really feel what a heavy car it is. Overall much quicker and more fluid than I'd thought it would be, reaching 130mph top speed where the M3 CSL reaches 140mph - and with 110 bhp/tonne less - not bad. The best bit though was the pointing and laughing by spectators as I sailed past 'chavved up' French GTi's and the like. I overheard one victim say to another "it's got a 5 litre V8 in it, he's just badged it up as a diesel"
