Yes, I would say that signal is what tells the Body Module to trigger the relay to stop power to the soft close motor drive when "retracted". The fact the motor stops and works correctly suggests that signal wire is fine. The question then is what triggers the soft close motor to start?

Well, i'm not sure about that... I think the soft close motor function is scripted. When i lock the top lock (manually by hand) soft close motor turns by 180 degrees and when i unlock top to lock it turns again for 180 degrees (which is all good and logical)
I'm really confused what to do now

I would ask the question as a separate thread. What component signals to the car that the tailgate is open or closed?

It's just occurred to me that the way to test what signals the soft close motor to operate is to try inserting something else into the latch / both the tailgate one and the soft-close. I know that the main computer can be fooled into thinking the doors are closed by using a thick screwdriver shaft to mimic the striker plate.
I am pretty sure that when I fixed my soft-close I was playing around triggering it to go by sliding a screwdriver into the tailgate latch. Just to watch it. I could be confusing that with my Toyota van door which had similar problem but it was the door part of the latch that has the microswitch.

Hi I just wanna say thank you for this thread. I had the exact same thing. Boot had water damage, had replaced relays, shortly after soft close stopped working. Didn't mend it for years, i measured the voltage of the brown-red wire to be 0V, extended another wire to it which I use for my stereo, and presto, soft close is working brilliantly again.
