I would like to know more about how you LCI-guys are experience the fuel consumption on your direct injection engines... and that goes for the diesel cars too (even if we could have split petrol an diesel in two categories).

After 7500 kms (4500 miles) I average around 8.8 - 9.3 l/100kms (26.7 - 25.3 US mpg, 32.1 - 30.3 UK mpg) which I am quite happy with baring in mind that I either am on the motorway/highway or standing in a queue...

The offical figures are 7.9 l/100 kms, but that's with a "naked" car in a laboratory environment. Mine is probably >50 kgs heavier with comfort seats, sport bumpers, audio system and the really heavy panoramic roof. Not to mention the wind, ever present in southern Scandinavia...

What's your experience?
My is about 10,3l/100 km. Mixed drive but mostly highway at quite high speed between 160-170 km/h.

13.5l/100km which I am not too happy about. Too much city driving with a lot of stop, go, stop, then really go! I have noticed that my driving style really impacts economy. I just can't stop gassing it.

I have been satisfied with the consumption of my 525d LCI so far.. I have been a bit suprised, as I was expecting that the figures would be higher than spec. But I do get about 6.2L combined and 5L (or even less) in highway doing 90-100km/h. This all if I drive economically, of course.

I'm currently at 8 liters / 100km. This is mostly motorway driving, of which 50% at 120-140km/h on restricted German autobahns / Netherlands motorways and 50% at 200+km/h on deresticted German autobahns. I easily achieved around 6 liters / 100km when just measuring consumption at around 120km/h, which would not be too far away from BMW's "lab" measurements -- which clearly do not take the weight of the driver's right foot into consideration

'08 535i in Georgia (US) I get 23 mpg in mixed (bach and forth to work) city/highway driving and 29 all highway according to the car's computer. The car has 5,000 miles on it. My highway driving is 75 to 80 mph on cruise control, but the computer shows an average of 67 mph - that takes into account the non-interstate part of the trip. The mixed driving shows an average mph on 30 on the car's computer.
That is good for 535, What octane do you use, any additives / mods ?
Mine 08 528 xi, 8000+ miles, Mostly Interstate driving, average 60mph, 25-26 mpg average

Excuse my ignorance but what does LCI stand for? My new 523i touring is performing extremely badly in terms of fuel consumption 19/20 mpg UK is pretty awful and I'm being very careful on the accelerator. Am watching closely.

Eveer seen a fuel test? They let a car on an oval of about 1 mile lenght drive for 2-3 hours at constant pace (let's say 90 kmh 55 mph)
on cruise control, no equip turned on (no aircon/radio/lights/whatever)

This way it's possible to reach those numbers

Remember driving at 100 mph, needs 4x times the fuel used at 50 mph.

hmmm from reading this thread i wonder if i average a really low speed? computer shows 41km and consumption to be 11.1/100km.

why do my numbers seem so terrible

recently, i handed over my keys to my sister. i don't believe her driving habits made the numbers change that much...

(my car is XI)

I found the fuel consumption on my new car to be very poor until I discovered that the mpg was set to US gallons instead of UK gallons. If you go into your settings on the i-drive you can check this. Evidently UK cars are often wrongly set up from factory delivery.
