Read a lot of info on fuel additives and whether this has any effect. Seems there is little consensus. I checked out millars and was rather surprised by the difference which in my case was definitely noticeable. The engine seems more responsive. I suspect this will not be case for all and probably dependant on how well you take care of your engine. Anyway not been on site for a while so thought I would share this info.

I think it depends on so many factors whether you get a good outcome from fuel additives, such as aged and mileage of the car whether it has been used on the motorway all the time of driven on short distances around town. A high mileage car used on short journeys might benefit more from an additive as it will remove all the tar and soot build up from the injectors and other fuel system components, whereas a high mileage car used mainly for long motorway journeys might not benefit as much.

Some of the branded additives are also pretty useless. The commercial products are a bit better.

My formula:
  • Chevron Techron a couple times a year
  • + run Sunoco Ultra whenever possible (otherwise get my gasoline at a station that maintains its pumps / filters and sells tier1 gasoline)
  • + take a long (100 miles or so) highway trip and at least once a month.
Maybe it's the automotive equivalent of moderate use of nutritional supplements, eating the right food, and getting some exercise
