Today after filling diesel I forgot to close the filler cap. I thought I should receive a warning message in Idrive for this, but I didn't. After searching the forum I found some treads about this message (another problem though) Warning Message Fuel Cap

Maybe this is implemented in US models only. Do you get such a message in your European Car? I have a 2009 525xdat.

I've never seen such a message on my US spec MY2006 530Xi But then again, I don't know if I've ever driven with the fuel cap open...

Diesels don't car so much about open filler caps as the fuel isn't anywhere near as volatile.

I believe that Diagnostic Module for Tank leakage or DMTL is a US feature.

It seems like check control should give a message for both diesels and gasoline cars according to this site:

WDS BMW

Id: Control unit
32: Digital engine electronics (DME), digital diesel electronics (DDE): Please close filler cap!

Fuel tank cap open
It is possible that fuel or fuel vapour could leak.
Check whether the fuel tank cap has been twisted shut and has snapped into place.
