Default E61 Trunk boot open angle

Good Morning everyone,

I have an E61 that I replaced the fluid in the pump and installed a new HKL module for the tailgate. I cannot set the opening angle from the idrive system and when I open it via the remote, or button on the A pillar it will open 3/4 of the way. The rest I have to push up and it will stay. Pressing the close button will close it, but will not engage the second latch, so I have to give it a hard push at the bottom to get it to latch properly and not display the 'Trunk Open' message on the HUD. If anyone has any experience with resolving this problem please let me know.

Some background information, the boot area had flooded and I had to replace the HKL and the SAT/sirius xm module. I removed the boot at the end of the drains, but on heavy rain for periods longer than 3-4 hours, I wil have little droplets on the SATnav module near the hydraulic pump for the tailgate. I am in the process of relocating it until I can address the leak.

Thanks for all your help.

You've verified the fluid level in the reservoir? Mine was down, which was causing the tailgate to open only 3/4 - once I changed the fluid and brought it to the correct level it started working normally again. There are level marks on the translucent white reservoir bottle below the pump.

I am driving a 2006 BMW 530xi. Spare tire area exposed to water and parking sensor module and HKL module had rust. I changed these modules and relays. I added fluid to the pump. When I try to open tailgate, it is only unlocks, not lifting. I am openning manually. When I want to close it by button, it is not! I need to do it manually. In the iDrive, HKL menu is not enabled and tailgate openning angle is seems to be fixed to 0.

Do you have a suggestion how to proceed?

Definintely check fluid level. Assuming that checks out it seems unlikely but worth checking the CCC/CIC coding - it has a tickbox to enable angle adjustment - "BACKDOOR_OPENINGANGLE"

Actually, as I reviewed my HKL coding options, as well as you reporting a new HKL module I wonder if you need to default code the module. The HKL module has several options that I think track with your issue - if they're not correct they might prevent expected behavior:
"KLAPPE_OEFFNEN_WINKEL - WITHOUT OPENING AUTOMATIC TRUNK LID TO DEFINED ANGLE WITH REMOTE CONTROL" [NICHT_AKTIV]
"MAX_WINKEL_MMI - TRUNK LID MAXIMUM OPENING ANGLE ADJUSTABLE IN MULTIMEDIA INTERFACE (MMI)" [AKTIV]
"SANFTAUSLAUF - SOFT-STOP AUTOMATIC TRUNK LID" [AKTIV]
(my settings in brackets)
