E61 Sway/anti Sway bars....
#21
Hmm but if you can only comment on the rear bar, why did you state earlier in this thread that the front M5 sway bar is completely different than that of non-M cars?
Am I missing something here? Or are you also x-drive and thats why you can't comment on front bars of RHD cars?
I know the function of the sway bars, and I have compared all specifications on RealOEM to make sure the M5 ones fit my car, as far as I can. I don't trust the BMW dealers around here and even if they told me it fits, I would check myself before ordering.
So the only thing that confused me was your statement that the M5 front bar wont fit other cars. Would be great if you could clarify what you meant.

I can only comment on the rear M5 anti-sway bar because I have it installed on my E61; there is no point to comment on the front M5 anti-sway bar because I do not have a V10 equipped E61...
Just like the E39 M5 front anti-sway bar could not be used on any non-V8 E39, the M5 E60/61 anti-sway bar cannot be used on any other car aside from a M5.
I do not have a 530xd, just the standard E61 530d, and I have no clue about either the front or read anti-sway bars of the xi/xd models. I would check the ETK and compare the rear anti-sway bars of both (i/d and xi/xd). It is also possible that the xi/xd M-Sport models have thicker anti-sway bars than non-M Sport, but I doubt it. The M-Sport package was only cosmetic for the xi/xd models AFAIK.

Hey guys, I'm waiting for and E60 M5 to come in. Once one arrives I'll take pictures and take some measurements to see/verify weather or not the bar fits or what it will take to get one to fit.

just enjoy the pic... it si pretty much the SAME so on RWD I dont see a problem (and there is not any)... for the rear you can use any from limo or touring or even from e63 (6er)

The picture is of the front M5 bar, as I understand it. He also mentioned that he only needed different bushings to put it on his RWD E61.
Problem with you and (it seems) Nels is that your cars are AWD, so I guess you will have too wait for the comparison Nels is doing.

Some of you are correct; the front bars are different do to the AWD option. The front CV shaft is the issue. Well it?s the CV shaft in relation to the sway bar end link location.
When under the car facing the inside of the passenger front wheel on an AWD E60/61 the end link is to the right of the center point of the wheel.(See first picture) For the non AWD the end link is to the left of the center point of the wheel. The end link will have to be moved to the left of the center point of the wheel to avoid contacting the CV shaft. (See second picture) The second picture is an image from an E63 M6
I'm working on a solution. Bare with me!
