E61 - rear clunking sound.
Just picked up a 08 535xi from Cali
Upon driving when it arrived in Canada, there is a loud clunking sound from the rear.
The car will be fine, but once i make a left turn the sound will always be there. Sounds like a grind and is very jolting. It seems to be over the passenger rear trunk area.
It only happens when accelerating. If i coast the noise/clunk does not come out
I brought it to my indy and they hoisted it for me. They could not see any visible rubbing or grinding. Also lifted and spun the wheels and the bearings seem good.
Anyone experience anything similar or have any ideas or experience with this
The noise and clunk is loud enough that it doesnt feel safe.
My google mechanic skills are leading me to the flex disc/center support bearing
Link to recording of the sound. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/.../E60-Grind.mp3
Thanks

Good that you figured it out. Where do you get your exhaust work done? You happy?
Do you think they're into doing a bit of custom work?

The Speed Syndicate did the fix. They didnt put the exhaust in as i bought the wagon with it. They do lots of custom work if thats what you are looking for

Cool. Had forgotten about those guys! Visited them once for my 3 series, as I was considering rolling my fenders. I'll try them out.
I'm not on the island. GVA. I've got a Carbon Black with Natural Brown leather, and some cosmetic mods like colour matching grills and front fender reflector.
