Hi Friends, I'm looking to use a different engine oil than the one supplied by BMW. A friend recommended AMSOIL, another LIQUID MOLLY.
Which brand and viscosity do you use and recommend? Thanks

Honestly I don't understand the reason to purchase high priced oil. I've used Mobile 1 0w40 in mine for over 10 years and have never had an issue. Under the VC the engine looks great. I understand it's all preference but I'd rather put in Mobile 1 and add some LM Ceratec every other oil change instead of wasting money. Most owners who use LM or AMSOIL only do it because a friend or because of marketing.
I'm real meticulous about my vehicles and the one thing that will tell you what's good for your car is getting your oil analyzed. I have 4 vehicles with 2 of them being a BMW. One of them have a N63TU engine which in my opinion one of the worst engine made in its original release. I see owners complaining about having to add oil every 1k miles. I say the only reason why is because they have no clue what how to keep the engine operating optimally. I haven't had to oil once in mine between changes and I'm using Walmart 0w40 in mine with no issues.
At this point your engine has had every type of oil in it so what you put in is not going to reverse the damage if there's anything wrong. Change oil regularly (7k miles max) and get it analyzed. That will tell what to do. This has been to me proven the best way because all 4 of my cars are known for oil issues and not one I have an issue with.

I've been using Mobil 1 or Castrol Edge Syntec 0W40 for years. Every oil change I do a Blackstone Labs oil analysis - even with longer oil change intervals averaging 7500 miles - all the samples come back good with low wear metals results.
