Traded my MY2000 528iT for the MY2006 530xiT in early December.

Overall I am very pleased with the new model, but I have a question: After I exit the car it makes a 5-20 second noise, sounding like a compressor. This happens just a few seconds after I lock the car with the remote, but if I just exit w/o locking (in my garage), it can take several minutes before "the noise." starts. My guess is that it is the self-leveling rear suspension adjusting, but the 528 also had self-leveling as well, but I never heard any such noise. Anyone else know of this situation? Do I need to take the car back to the dealer with only 700+ miles on the clock?

Thanks for any info.

No need to take it in. It is the suspension and I don't think it has anything to do with the car being locked or unlocked. It seems pretty random to me now after 5500 miles. I've actually watched the suspension raise itself after fully loading the cargo area and having four adults onboard. It seemed to happen when I opened the driver's door to get in. Then after unloading, it lowered about 30-45 seconds after closing the rear hatch. When I first got the car, I was noticing it right after opening the hatch, so I thought the hatch motor was continuing to run. I took it to the dealer and the SM explained it to me. You can rest easy.

Agree -- no need to worry -- just the self-leveling system.
