E61 2007 Heated Rear Window (HRW) fault
Hi all,
My HRW is not working and I have the following.
1. Green light is on at the switch.
2. 12v at Fuse and Fuse ok.
3. Relay tested and ok.
Removed every thing to get to the wires going to the HRW i.e. rear spoiler off and found one broken wire in the common place which is well documented in all forums.
It was the brown wire which is the ground for the HRW so I thought great I've found the problem so I repaired but unfortunately still no heat,
The other wire going to the HRW is a red/white wire which is only showing 5v, is this correct as I would expect to see 12v so could this be my problem.
So does anyone know what voltage goes through the window, have any diagrams that may help or any fault finding of the HRW would be much appreciated.
best regards
John

HRW - its working
Good news my HRW is now working so I can answer the question that no one else could answer and also give other info when trying to fix a faulty HRW.
1, You should have 12v on the red/white wire, you will need to have the engine started and running and I measured over 14v. This will start to drop every second when the ignition is turned off as I think it must be on a timer.
2.You should always have 12v at the fuse whether ignition is on or off.
My problem turned out to be both wires broken that go to the HRW, the red/white wire (12v) and the brown wire (earth). As I said above I only had 5v on the r/w wire and moving the tail gate up an down told me that the wire was damaged as the reading fluctuated from 3v to 12v.
The fix was to solider new strips of wire which is well documented else where.
One other tip that worked well was to use a raw plug and black self tapping screw to secure the black metal wire guilds that you need to prise open to get to the wires.
