Dumb question re: Staggered Wheels
#1
I have a 2006 530xi (AWD) with sport pack.. I'm currently running the Style 123 18" wheels 245/40/18 all the way around.
Does anyone know if you can run staggered wheels on an 06 530xi? I am considering going to 19x8.5 in the front and 19x9.5 in the rear, for summer use. I'm curious to know if I should be concerned about the way the car drives with the xdrive system in place and having wider wheels in the rear. Any issues that anyone knows of?
Thanks!

Sorry that no one has answered your question. I wish I knew why, but BMW does not offer any factory wheels in a staggered configuration for the E61. That doesn't mean you can't put some on (make sure they have the proper offset for the xi models), but BMW doesn't want to support it. Since BMW offers staggered wheels for the E60 530xi sedan, I would be concerned about why they don't offer the same wheels for the E61.

As far as I know, the 19-inch wheels homologation on the E61 Touring has to do with cargo and "towing" capacity of the car vs. the same capacity of correct speed index 19-inch tyres.
ALPINA and others do it but, at least in Germany, it requires a re-homologation of the car, lowering its cargo and towing capabilities if 19-inch wheels are fitted...

My Ride: E61 535d sport, Silver Grey/grey/maple.
20" Hartge Nova 7. Previously 19" staggered 172s
On a standard (RWD) E61 you can fit staggered 19s with no problems at all (I have 172s).
We do not have the Xi model in the UK but am I right in thinking that it is 4WD?
If it is, then staggered wheels are NOT a good idea. The rolling radius must be exactly the same on each corner or else the centre diff. is stressed. Even different tread depths on the same size tyres are not good for it. Use the same size tyres all round

I could be wrong but doesn't the X5 offer staggered options?

Is that centre-diff thing still true? I thought we'd moved on from that 'problem'?

As I said, we don't have the Xi models in the UK for some reason. We have only recently killed the myth that staggered wheels wont fit any tourer, if you are sure that diffs are no longer a problem (?) then they will likely fit the X models too.
So who's going to be first??
