hi folks,

i am new here.

actually i am driving an e46 coupe 330cd.

but there comes a time for every man when he needs a 4 door car with large space in the back.......

therefore i have decided to buy a e61, however, i am not sure whether it should be a 535d or a 530xd.

i have already tested the 535d but no 530xd was available.

is there anybody having driven both cars and can therefore compare?

thanx

Well, I drive an E61 525d, with 197 hp, and I can imagine that a 5 series diesel (1700 kg) needs the power of and 535d to be as fast as your 330d.

A 530xd weights 100 kg more than a 535d due to 4wd system.

Only if you need the 4wd system, I would go for that, in all other cases i would choose the 535d.
(btw a 535d is a lot faster than a 530xd)
Goog luck deciding.

in winter the x would suit my needs better but in summer ......

for me the question is rather whether the 535d is drivable in winter on snowy and rainy streets, too.

Of course the 535d is driveable in snow/mud! Several 535d's have been sold here in Sweden and as you probably know electronic devices work marvels nowadays. An x-verion is of course even better on a slippery tarmac, but not mandatory...

I am from Vienna, Austria. Sometimes we have lot of snow but this year was easy going. For the first time I did not change the car mats to the ones made from rubber.

On the other side we go skiing and our family lives outside Vienna, so my experinces with the 330cd on snowy roads are poor, very poor.

But I it is possibly not worth buying the x because of 4 or 6 weeks of snowy roads in the year. For the rest of the year the x is only ballast.

As an Austrian you know that a set of good wintertyres will get you almost everywhere.

Go for the 535d!! Do it, you won't regret.

Maybe an option, get a 530xd (instead of a 535d), saves you around ? 10.000,-. Go to an reputable tuner like AC Schnitzer, Hartge.
and spend 1500,- on a chip that will get you hp/nm even with an 535d. Cheaper and you get it all you want.

I'm doing the same with my 525d. Not buying a 530d saves me ? 6000,- (535d diff. ? 16000,-), I go to Hartge and get 271hp/590nm (=535d power).
