Hi everyone. I have a 05 525d Touring and for the past month the Climatronic system has acted a bit weird. I have the full automatic one. When I control the fan speed manually (middle wheel), it only increases up until 11 o'clock. I can turn further, and the orange lights will follow, but the fan speed doesn't. It stays at 11 o clock max. Using "Auto" doesn't help either. The only mode which seems to give full speed is the window mode. The whole Climatronic panel has resetted itself a couple of times - all the lights have gone black and come back a few seconds later. Then the fan would work normally for maybe 5 min, but then back to the above.

Don't know if it is related, but the Navi sometimes "hangs", that is doesn't move with the car, in the way that the map doesn't follow, but stays at the position when starting the car. The whole computer seems a bit weird.

I had a similar problem with my standard climatronic system - the fan didn't go to full speed --> the reason was a bad battery.

That makes sense. I've had some issues with my battery as well. I may get a new one. Thanks!

If your battery voltage is low the car will protect itself for essential functions by disallowing non-essential functions. More than half fan speed is the first thing to be blocked.

Yes, that makes sense. Today I got a low voltage warning, and some strange fault messages as well. The Navi was totally lost, and the computer didn't boot before after for 50 secs. I guess it's time for a new battery. Thanks again.

Try charging the battery first.

You MUST charge it through the connection points under the bonnet. The reason for this is that otherwise the car charge monitor circuit doesn't see the battery being charged.

These cars hammer the battery and with light use of the car (short journeys) a good battery will just run down within a couple of weeks.

The batteries are expensive too.

I find that the car electronics are super sensitive to anything below 12.00V but the car will start fine below that.
