Praising BMW for their excellent engineering may be a bit hard nowadays. My beemer is in for the 7th time after experiencing yet another "Engine failure" warning.

Anyway, I'm a regonised client at the car rental, don't have to show my ID anymore. Isn't that nice.

I still don't know what's wrong, they will update me either today or tommorow. I have highlighted that I wouldn't mind discussing a buy back, even though it's 1,5 years old and has 35.000 kms on the clock.

Utter disappointment.

I'm sorry for your problems and hope they will get sorted out soon.

I see you got the same car as me, a 530i LCI. I bought mine used, and has only had it for 1000km's - no probs so far . Don't know if your probs are fuelpump related, but apparantly there has been a lot of issues with the petrol direct- injection engines, especially malfunctioning hp fuelpumps and injectors. (in german) http://www.autobild.de/artikel/motorproble...bmw_730901.html Several threads about it on the german boards too. Had I known this in advance I'm not sure I would have bought a petrol LCI....

Push them hard for a buyback !! Site the fact the car is unsafe and will likely be the cause of a serious accident and that you will hold BMW responsible when this happens..................they will start talking buyback............ I had my 07 stall going into a busy intersection and I really pushed this point on them , additionally it stalled on a very fast and busy bridge during rush hour ,the transport truck behinfd could have easily hit me if he wasn't paying attention.I was ordering a new car very quickly after this !!

You should discuss this matter with TitangrauII530iA.

He did get a brand new car (from BMW Nordic) do to his problems with the engine in his 525i.

All these problems has something to do with the N52 gasoline engine.

Yep. This time I involved my sales rep who got the real expert in to have a look. And he seems to find something that has been overseen previously. Something is wrong with the 2nd cylinder, so all data is sent to Munich for a thorough analysis.

That may work in on the other side of the pond... Not here, I'm afraid. But thanks for you support and I will use absolutely your input!

Update:

Data sent to Munich and back came the reply - change the VANOS magnets (the technician working on the car ranfg me up and gave a two minutes explanation - he would probably go nuts if he read my conclusion). Apparently something's wrong with the way they are working. Whether this will finally solve the problem I haven't the faintest idea about - only that I have asked my lawyer to look into the matter to hear his view. BMW Sweden is also involved now thanks to my sales rep, who's really being helpful.

Also, I'm starting to enjoy my loaner - an 118i with a pretty good spec list (for being a rental car), and I enjoy negotating my way through the morning traffic with this car. And it's nice to have a car that doesn't break down all the time. Makes a change.

Got the car back yesterday evening, and on the same day I received a letter from BMW Sweden where they are offering me an extended warranty of 6 months. That's all. I haven't made up my mind whether to accept it or to make more fuss about it. Any ideas?

A lot has been replaced this time (again); cam shafts, injectors, VANOS "stuff".. it was a loong list so I think I can say my engine is new, all after recommendation from BMW AG (ie the tecchie guys in Munich). And the dealers have been very helpful, both the dealer where I bought the car (some 60 kms from home) and the dealer in the nearest town who has been working on my car since the start.

First impressions: a much more smoother engine; it feels "softer" sort of.
