Default 6HP19 Replacement

Hi I'm new, looking for some help with my 2008 E61 520d LCI. Huge BMW fan but this is my first 5

So the gearbox (6HP19) has started throwing gear monitoring 4-5 and e coupling codes after around 20 minutes of driving. Oil and filter changed but no difference so assume box or converter damaged.

I plan to fit a used box, converter and cooler from a working same year/model car. Change oil and filter in the process.

Am I correct in thinking the replacement gearbox will need coding with the cars VIN for it to function? Is there anything else I should be aware of? I know it's a risk fitting a used gearbox but the car isn't worth enough to warrant other options

Any help would be much appreciated

Did you make any progress on this? I don't have any specific experience with transmissions so I can't answer your questions. Have you looked at solenoid replacements as a possible fix?

You don't need to do a replacement. You just need it serviced. There's a 6HP19 how to in the DIY section that will explain everything you need to look at and perform. I'm sure at this point you have already dove into it but just giving a way ahead for future issue with others
