Default Transmission oil

hello,

I want to change the tranmission oil of my bmw e60 '05. My question is how much oil I need. I will completely change the oil and put new in. I also want to change the oil filter.

Can someone help me? Thanks

Hi,

You would need about 9-10 liters. As for the oil filter get oem (Mann).

Hi. Today I called two different dealers for the oil filter. The dealers both sell only complete the transmission container including the filter. But I only need the oil filter.

Is there a way to get only the filter?

Thanks

If your tranny is ZF 6HP there is no separate filter, only oil pan with filter (from ZF, Meyle,...).

This is not a basic procedure
The right oil level/right temperature is a key to success

You have to use special transmission fluid for ZF 6HP (from BMW or ZF Lifeguard 6, Ravenol 6HP, Meyle ATF plus 6).
The problem is how to replace the maximum amount of fresh oil and use the minimum amount of expensive fluid (about 10-12 liters), because only about half amount of old fluid can be drained through oil pan.

Use ZF lifelong 6 oil and if you are changing the filter, the pan will be replaced with it and you will need 6.6/6.7L of the oil. Be careful not to touch the transmission when it is hot and take care of those torx bolts on the pan. Depending your mechanical skills, this job is fairly difficult at about 7/8, and must be done very carefully. Do your homework first before touching anything, as this not a straight forward oil drain fill procedure.

A cheap alternative for the OEM fluid would be to use the Land Rover LRN13754 fluid. It is essentially the Shell M1375.4 fluid that was the oem fill in your ZF transmission.
