530 dA Oil consumption ?
#1
Hi,
I'm interested about other people experiences of oil consumption. My -06 (170kW) is consuming "occasionally" oil. During the first oil change interval (30 000km) I had to add 3l oil. Consumption seems to come an go, first 10 000 without any remarkable consumption and then one liter in 3000 km, again 5000 without any problems and then consumption started again...
BMW says that 1l/2000 km is normal, my opinion is that's way too much. Does anybody else have similar experiences and what is the dealer reaction. In here, under the BMW headquarters (GER) they say it's normal, just add oil and drive...

My 525iA's didn't need any refill before the first service at around 18,000 km's.
My new 520dA has only 6,300 km's on it and the iDrive tells my that the oil is 100%.

No much consumption. <1l for 30,000 km.
I change oil every 15,000 km (instead of the crazy 30k that BMW i-drive recommends...) and so far did not had to add much in between. I do check oil level every week and I am still running on the same 1liter spare oil bottle....The only time I added was when I went to Germany and enjoyed 250km/hrs on autobahn.
At last I never rev high until engine reach temperature, and always allow engine to stab before I switch it off.
Also , I never try to be at the max level. I just keep level at the middle of the recommended high-low level. [Advantage of still having an old oil stick! ]. I do not trust electronics. For 6 months my car kept telling me insufficient oil but it was a software issue/ calibration issue of the oil sensor not accounting for condensation of water in engine (see my thread on this).
Yes, can say that I am a bit maniac
