My Ride: e39 525i Touring, will order e61 as soon as I can decide on engine and options...
Default

My problem seems to be that nobody likes the same spec as I do, hence, no used cars for me to buy....;-)

On reflection I was thinking - why buy a new 523 or 525. In spite of what the dealer tells you, the depreciation will by eye watering (particularly on all the extras, which have minimal resale value).

A one year old 530d or 530i would be a much better bet financially - and more fun.

Thanks for all the comments.

I'm going to amend my order to the 525i. It seems to make logical sense over the 523i (can't afford 530i and don't want the diesel)

In the UK the 2.5L engine is offered as a 177HP or 218HP (model 523 or 525) Extra cost ?1600 for the 218HP, about 5% of the total car cost.

Can, and should I justify the additional 5% cost for the extra HP?
I had the same doubt while changing my E60/170HP. Good car but too weak engine. Buy buying the E61 I though that 177HP would have same problems as the car is a bit heavier than the previous. I went for the 525i and I am really happy about it.
