08 E61, What’s This For?

Default 08 E61, What’s This For?

While replacing the oil pan gasket I noticed this plastic screw in plug on the left rear part of the oil pan. I don’t know what it’s for.it looks Ike an attachment for a dip stick. This is my first BMW so it’s all new.

Wow... I had my pan off a few years ago and never noticed/thought about that. It's got to be designed for a dipstick. I wish BMW would have gone through to completion on that.

It looks like where the plastic plug is located is under the left hand engine support that connects the motor mount to the engine cradle. Well that explains why there’s no dip stick, kind of. There is no rule saying I can’t modify the mount! When I reassemble that area I’ll have a closer look.
