What is leaking? Front shaft seal? Rear shaft seal? Crankshaft position sensor? Oil pan gasket?

How long have you owned it?

Have you ever had to add oil? If so, how much and how often?

Do you notice oil on the garage floor? If so, how much and how often?

Have you dropped the plastic under shield and noticed oil in it? If so, how much and how often?

My two cents...If there isn't much oil, just monitor it. All cars have oil filming around gasket surfaces after some age.

If there is no need to add oil between oil changes, I would just monitor it and if it gets worse, I'd deal with it. Of course, if it is a simple job, just do it. Oil pan gasket is not a simple job.

I have a 2007 525xi with front main seal leaking. I got an estimate from $2,400 from an independent to $617.00 from the Dealer.

I am doing it my self.

I got a seal removal tool $110.00
Manual pdf format $10.00
Seal $24.00
Sealant with a primer, Using permatex instead of Loctite $25.00

So far It has not been very difficult, other than getting proper torx socket to remove Vibration damper.

The seal replacement went very well....
Initially I was very nervous... After reading the manual and getting a few bits of info hear and there I made it happen.

Check out this link below... Nick at Pelican parts gave me some info to start, that's why I posted the follow-up there.

I could rent you the seal puller if you need it... Just fyi or sell it... I hope to never need it...
