are you going to bite the bullet and do it yourself? its a tedious task so prepare yourself.

i'm undecided as to whether or not i'll attempt it, but either way i would recommend reading this DIY thoroughly: The Fix-it Blog - Sorting Things Out: BMW 535xi Touring E61 Tailgate Wiring Harness - SenCom Repair Kit Installation

how bad can it really be!

i've rewired my old jetta after engine swaps and standalone setups and had to redo the wiring on my MK5 rabbit when I swapped the auto for a manual transmission.

just have to move first and i'll let you know when i'm done and i'm nearby in lynnwood/mountlake terrace!

KBC
Why do you have to replace the whole harness?
Im amazed noone has asked you yet.

I have helped many people with electrical problems over the years and some in the rear of BMW's

maybe you don't even need to replace everything but sinply repair what's in your car

I wouldn't trust anything a dealership says without checking first. Maybe they are right but first let us know what is wrong and we will see if we can help you

typical issues:

1. remote and comfort access entry stopped working (right side harness)
2. defroster barely works (left side harness)
3. rear wiper more recently stopped working. not sure which side this is.

btw, do you have the wiring diagram for this?

First
I wish I was close as I would come and help you either fix it all or help you replace the loom/s
I love doing this type of work on cars (I'm a panelbeater/mechanic)

Your faults do not seem extreme or hard to fix
I will look for a wiring diagram for you

most of the time with wiring it is just working your way back through the sytem until you find the fault.

First is earth checks as old or dirty grounding terminals can cause so many problems

PM me with any question and ill do my best to help

In all my years of repairing cars professionally I have never had to replace a wiring loom because the problem could not be found or repaired

Are you sure you need to replace it?
What's the problem?
