Thanks guys for all the advise.
I did look at the spacer web site and took some measurements as they suggested but found there was only a gap of about 5mm to spare from the edge of the wheel to the inner arch. I take it that the stiff OEM suspension doesn't allow the the edge of the tyre to touch the arch except in extreme conditions?

Once word of caution. Running spacers in the front may make your wheels and steering vibrate as I have seen in many cars using spacers in the front.
I have only spacers in the rear (10mm spacers) and I didnt rub with 275-30-19 before, Now I rub a bit with 285-30-19 when I have a full load. just my 2 cents.

Tires destroyed ...
I have a 2005 545i with sports package, custom rims and tires. I rolled the fenders, and the tires are aligned.
The inner part of my rear tires keeps getting destroyed. I bought new rear ties and they lasted only 10K miles!
Front:
245/30/20 (Falken FK452)
Rear:
285/25/20 (Falken FK452)
I have to get new rear tires, and I think I need hubcentric spacers. Does anyone have any suggestions???
