I've used Castrol Syntec European Formula SAE 0W-30 twice.

BMW Long-life rating LL-01 Approved Synthetic Oils for the US Market:
- Castrol Syntec European Formula SAE 0W-30
- Mobil 1 SAE 0W-40
- Pennzoil Platinum European Formula Ultra SAE 5W-30
- Valvoline SynPower SAE 5W-30
where do you guys buy your oil? I've been buying it from the dealer. Is it cheaper in autozone, kragen or peppboys or do they even have it?

-thanks

Try Wal-mart. They have all the major brand synthetics with the same viscosities, additives, ratings and certifications that the auto places have at rock bottom prices. And they have multiquart containers.

I buy the recommended BMW oil and filter from my dealer and then install it myself.

beh... car is a depreciating asset
Righto. Which is why I lease. I think of a car financially as a liability and not an asset. It technically is an asset but all but the most rare and collectible cars lose so much of their initial value so quickly.

Right, as long as you're making payments on it. That is why I "DON'T" lease. I would much rather buy and pay it off. I am the type that will keep a car for 7 to 10 years before getting another.

Just change your oil soon as possible.

Buying is the only way to go if you keep your cars that long.

I always want to be under warranty and I get bored of a car after 3 years and want a new one. Then again, I never did get bored of my 540i Sport and turning it in at lease end was so very depressing. But I did not want it post-warranty expiration.
