i hope its ok to ask you guys ( i did tried searching) but first is i cant remember which one i use last time when i got the idrive msg "engine oil in in minimum level" now i just want to make sure i'll be getting the correct match for my car, ive read that the brand castrol is the best to use so is the castrol syntec 0W30 ok on my car??? thanks in advance, sorry for maybe a bit lazy and did not search further :D thanks again!!! :D

I tried "Q" High Performance oil this time around, but I didn't see a huge improvement in gas mileage or engine idle. I think Castrol Syntec or Mobile One Synthetic may be some of the better performing oils.

It has to meet certain criteria, look on the back of the bottle for:

1) ACEA A3 certification
2) BMW LL-01 certified

And obviously be synthethic. I used Mobil 1 ow-30 (IIRC, myabe -40)

But just because the weights are the same doesn't mean it has those certifications, so double check for them.

we use either castrol or mobil 1 :)

Isn't it bad to mix different oil viscosity? I think the dealership puts 5W30 in our cars. Has anyone tried using Amsoil 5W30?

yes, I use 10w60 on my 545i that is an M oil and works perfectly on non-m cars. I am using it for 1 year and zero problem. the car runs very smooth and that oil is very helpful for high rpms.

oops yea, 10w60
