HDD works with USB option :)

Hi.
My old laptop broke down (the display)
took the hdd and put it into an external cabinet. usb powered only. The hdd is a hitachi 60GB normal ide.
took out the pictures and the music.
And then I decided, why not try it in the car.
I formatted it with FAT32 (important)
used this program in dos-mode: http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/index.htm?download.htm
this command: fat32format x:
(if you got win98 you dont need this dosprogram)
put some music on it and plugged it in the car.
It works like a charm, much faster than my rotten usb stick. And bigger

Saw somewhere that the car can only recognise up to 20,000 tracks.
How many tracks do you have, how long did it take to load ?
Now to figure out how to synchronise the disk wirelessly to my home server when the car is parked overnight

We discussed about it some time ago ...it should work.

only tried with .mp3 and .wma
and they work fine.
working with filling the hdd now
after filling 20 giga, I tried it and it works fine. only used 30 sec too start playing.
I could only search by directories the first 12 minutes. after that I could search songs, artists and so on.
when choosing songs the random function works fine.

the guy was talking about the usb option for aux audio...hdd now is proven to work on that option except that it has to be in fat32 format, not putting in a new head unit...
