My Ride: Alpine White 2006 530Xi (SLD)
I believe it is attached by two or three bolts and you do need to remove the headliner to take out the fin. At least, this is what my bodyshop guy was telling me a little while ago. Have a look on realoem.com - they have a few blow-ups of the roof assembly, you might get lucky.

I would pm Don Nguyen hes done a lot of vinyl on e60 roofs and probably knows how it comes off.

What are you trying to accomplish by removing it? The cover on the outside is affixed to the roof panel by windshield adhesive but I think in order to remove the actual antenna unit that's underneath the cover you have to remove the headliner as well...

The cover is held on by glue, it can be cut through though, I assume you will remove it for the roof vinyl?

if you just want to take off the fin, i would recommend using fishing line.
just slip the fishing line underneath and use a sawing motion.
Dont use anything weaker than a fishing line cuz it will just snap.
