I'm picking up a 2008 M5 this week and am looking for input regarding winter wheel/tire options. I live in Cincinnati and we don't get a ton of snow, but enough that the stock 19's with summer tires won't get me very far.

Any ideas/recommendations would be appreciated.

Regardless of snowfall and ice the "summer tires" are also adverse to low temperatures. Shop customer reviews ... compare options and prices at TireRack (Use the link in my signature for additional rebates if you buy there or at other on-line stores). If you have RFTs now and your car isn't equipped with a temporary spare that is an important item that you might have to buy should you go with conventional tires. Your car is a 2008 so you'll need to add a set of TPMS sensors if you go wheels and tire combo. Dunlops and Bridgestones are popular winter options. Lots of forum shoppers buyers have been very happy with TireRack prices and practices. If you have a business relationship with a local indy you could use the price and product information as bargaining ships.

to me is a waste of money putting winter tires on an M5 in winter. If you drive it, you have rear-wheel drive with 500HP winter tires not gonna help u here my friend.

 

Depends on where you live (in some states / countries it's NOT an option!) and whether you have an alternative means of transportation. As I'm sure you know, UHP Summer tires on any car are dangerous when temperatures fall below 40 degrees F - regardless of snowfall, ice or any precipitation. Of course UHP All-Season Tires are an option - IF local laws permit it during winter driving conditions.

That said, I'm sure you know that high performance drivers have been running high performance winter tires in road and rally events under very extreme wintery weather conditions ... usually putting more than 500hp to rear or all four wheels.
