can't answer you this question now since the m5 is still not here yet. so it's more like "why is 530 better than e320?" or "why is 545 better than e500?". and i can pretty much predict the answers from our beloved members .

No "full" maintenance on the E55. The BMW is for the younger crowd

lol I know its a premature question to ask I was just wondering what you guys thought based on reviews and the 1 or 2 photos youve seen online.

My opinion is that E55 needs a supercharger to achieve the torque it has. The interior looks poopy and the exterior is nothing special. I miss the old E55 though, that was a beast when it came out--but then again so was the m5.

E320 VS 530 is no comparsion. Just drive an E320 and a C320, whats the difference? Bubble lights and a longer car. Mercedes is trash and chrysler is to blame

The answer lies in the handling of the car. I drove the e55--straightaway, great power and acceleration, but the brakes are spongy and the car is too heavy--an absolute pig around the corners. It is a powerful sedan, but it is not a sport sedan like the M5 or the 545.

I haven't driven the new M5, but I had a '03 E55, so I'll give you my perspective on that car. The E55 has tremendous power (469 HP & 516 lb/ft of torque) and is scary fast in a straight line. I'd go so far as to say it has too much power for the car (suspension, tires, etc.) to handle. That's the good news. The bad news is the brakes (although they are huge Brembos) are horrible. The E55 uses the same brake-by-wire system as on the SLs, and the pedal feel is very unnatural and non-linear--almost like an on/off switch. I absolutely hated them. The steering is numb and the handling is terrible--even for a 4,200 lb sedan. I sold it after 4 months.

I enjoy driving my 545i so much more than the E55. And I don't get all those rice rockets wanting to race me at every stop light!
