Well After an amazing weekend with some extreme action I've managed to compile some photos of some this AMAZING event! I also only managed 80 miles out of £85 of petrol AND an extra 5 litres from the spare petrol can.... then ran out of fuel!

The event is held at Bruntingthorpe Airfield/Track. In a nutshell, the aim is to get as high a speed as possible on the 1.5 mile stretch of runway. Must say the 0.4 mile after this to slow down was..... interesting!

The event was stunning and everyone was exceptionally friendly. The line of cars was unreal with the event winner a Porchse 9ff kicking out more than 1000bhp... passing the line at 1.5 miles in 222mph! Also there were Ford GT, Mercedes McClaren SLR. Porchse Ruf CT3R. 3 different Lamborghhini Murcilagos, Ferarri 599 more Porches than you could shake a stick at (they all look the same to me!) Nobles, Nissan GTRs, Nissan NSX, Mercedes CLK DTM, Audi R8 V10, Audi R8 V8, Lotus Carlton and much much more!

There was only one accident which gratefully both people survived. The Porchse 9ff GT9R. More than 600,000 euro of written off car. Still no exact idea on how it happened but it would appear that the driver entered a spin when braking from over 200mph and went up and over a bank into some trees. Driver and passenger air lifted to hospital but both released from hospital intact yesterday. Some before the crash photos here. No post crash photos out of respect.

We learnt this much....

M5 vs GTR.... yes we were quicker and crossed the line first! Amazing car that GTR was very clearly ahead until around 130-mph, then the beast slowly hauled it in. At 160mph + it was like the GTR stopped accelerating and the M5 moved quite nicely past the GTR. He couldn't use LC because it would invalidate his warranty so I got a car length on him to start, but it was soon gone! By the first corner he had a clear car length on me. By the midle of the corner which is a long sweeping 180degree bend he had 2 car lengths. By the exit he had easily 3 or 4 car lengths on me! By 130mph he was probably around 10-12 car lengths ahead but then it was game over and catch up time! We finished probably 2 or 3 lcar lengths ahead but had only just changed into 7th, another half mile the GTR would be dust! Moral of the story is - they will kick M5 ass at lower speeds, keep them on a motorway/highway to have a chance!

M5 vs Gallardo 520 Nera Well we thought this would be tough but it was amazing, we neck and neck through the first corner and at about 100 mph the Lambo seemed to gain 1/2 a car length, but we were level in no time. Past 150 we pulled away quite nicely and put some distance between us, crossing the line at 182mph for the M5 and 177mph for the Gallardo

M5 vs M6 I thought these things were meant to be quick?! OK to be fair the 2 M6's we ran against were stock, but we had a few car lengths on them!

M5 vs Murcilago LP670 SV I had a great view of the rear of this thing.... but not for long! Humbling!

The other most important thing I learnt was I REALLY don't like being a passenger in an M5! Aproaching 180mph and high speed corners as a passenger is NOT fun! I now have empathy for all my future passengers!

Great post and vids! What an event. The vids confirm that the M5 is a demon at speed with supercar levels of top end power, performance and acceleration.

The only $100K car that can keep up with the $500K Lambo is the Corvette ZR1, which beat the Lambo around a racktrack in a comparo in a car mag.

Thanks for sharing. It really is a credit to the 5 year old M5 sedan that not only can it run with supercars, it can beat them!

Just think what the F10 M5 will be capable of.
