I've read here that the early 06 M5's had a SMG clutch issue, that is really expensive to repair. I'm thinking about buying one in spring.

Subscribing because I am still interested in a 2006 M5. I am hoping I am still able to buy an extended warranty and maintenance program assuming the car has under 50k miles.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but I believe BMW just changed there policy that you can still get an extended warranty even if you are not the first owner of the car as long as it passed their inspection and it was under the 50k or 4 year cut-off of the factory warranty.

My quandary is more 2008 BMW 550i with M-package vs. 2006 M5 vs. 2005-2006 911 S (I already have a thread going
I've not heard about this - nor does the US BMW website have any details about CPO'ing pre-owned BMWs .. anyone have a link to more information?

If you take the M5 for a "real test drive", and you're a serious car guy, you'll buy the 08 M5 and probably save something like $45K plus over the yet to be released next gen M5. My 08 M5 silver bullet is the bomb.....in terms of all-around car w/performance...little compares.

Do it. I went from a 530 to a 2008 M5 and love it. I will never go back to anything under 500 HP.
