+1 I agree, but I think it's good to go.

To the OP, get it already. You'll love it!

Get the M5.

About a month ago, I was in the Market for an '09 M3 looking for a good deal. My local sales guy casually asked me in an email "What about a used '06 M5 with 14k miles on it". My knee jerk reaction was NAH!. After thinking about it I took it out for a test drive... I signed the sales contract the next day. (46,5K)

I have never experienced the thrill of driving as much as I do with my Silver Bullet... it is simply exhillarating. An amazing car.

The M5 is an amazing car and now it is very cheep compared to the brand new price. The only thing that I would caution is cost of ownership. I used to spend a lot of time on the MB forums when I was driving Sl500's. You could get a SL500 for like 20k and people were buying them up like crazy, then they had an issue and needed some repairs. Next thing you know they were looking at a 4k-5k repair bill and people were sooo pissed that a car that cost 20k cost soooo much to maintain. Just remember. A 45k m5 was still a 95K car and on top of that it is a M car, crazy expensive to repair. Plus the lack of maintenance that BMW performs on these cars will ensure that chance that they will fail quicker compared to the Old School maintenance that BMW used to require for their cars. You have to think about what it will cost you if the vanos unit goes on the car (like 14K) or your SMG dies. If you are not worried about maintenance and repair costs in the future GET THE CAR. I have been struggling with the same thing... M5's are sooo cheep that I really want one... then I think about the what if's do I really want to layout serious cash for repairs. Good luck

The ///M's maintenance schedule is more than the regular E60s. oil and tranny + diff change at 1200 miles and then at every 3rd oil change... spark plug replacement at every 36K miles... I wouldnt call it lacking.

I agree. After reading a few horror stories about things going out and not being covered under warranty, I had my doubts. That is why I decided to get a 2008 or newer so that I would have some type of coverage for at least a year or two. Either way, you only live once. If it's not the car sucking you dry, it's going to be the stock market, house or wife. It might as well be something you love.

When a M vehicle is first released the dealer mark-ups can be in the neighborhood of $30K

Ya for the first day... haha I havent seen the supply and demand problems they had back in the E39 days... there seems to be plenty of supply for the E60 M5 when it came out... I would think it'll be the same for the F10

Subscribing because I am still interested in a 2006 M5. I am hoping I am still able to buy an extended warranty and maintenance program assuming the car has under 50k miles.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but I believe BMW just changed there policy that you can still get an extended warranty even if you are not the first owner of the car as long as it passed their inspection and it was under the 50k or 4 year cut-off of the factory warranty.

My quandary is more 2008 BMW 550i with M-package vs. 2006 M5 vs. 2005-2006 911 S (I already have a thread going
